God floods the earth with bright designs,
guards with a sovereign will.

3 O fearful saints, fresh courage take,
the clouds you so much dread
Are big with mercy and shall break
in blessings on your head.

4 Judge not God's way through human sense,
but trust unfailing grace;
behind a frowning providence
there shines a smiling face.

5 God's purposes will ripen fast,
unfolding every hour;
The bud may have a bitter taste,
but sweet will be the flower.

6 Blind unbelief is sure to err
and scan God's work in vain;
God is God's own interpreter,
whose truth shall be made plain.
