Buried: Westminster Abbey, London, England. Kipling, Rudyard, the well-known poet and story-teller, was born at Bombay, India, Dec. 30, 1865, and now (1906) lives at Burwash in Sussex. His noble poem, "The Recessional," was written in 1897 at the time of the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria, contributed to the Times for July 17, 1897, and first published by the author in his The Five Nations, 1903, p. 214, beginning "God of our fathers, known of old" (National). 1930 - 2016 Meter: 6.6.6.6 D Translator of "Vinde, Cristãos, Cantai" in Hinário para o Culto Cristão Joan Larie Sutton (nee Riffey) was born in Louisville, KY but lived most of her life in Brazil with her missionary parents. She began the study of violin at the age of ten, continuing her studies at Baylor University. She earned a Masters Degree in sacred music at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville. She married William Boyd Sutton and together they worked in Brazil. She translated many hymns into Portuguese. ================ JOAN SUTTON LARIE (Married to Pastor John Boyd Sutton) Brazilian Baptists owe much to this American musician who, after more than 30 years of fruitful work in Brazil (see: "Nassau", p.l66). was the catalyst for musical talent, natives and aliens in the preparation of "Hymns for Christian Worship," which contributed to the translations, which revealed hymns by contemporary authors. http://www.abordo.com.br/nassau/galeria.htm

Wiglesworth Meter: 6.6.6.6 D Author of "Thou Who with dying lips" in The Church Hymnal Wiglesworth, Esther, daughter of Thomas Wiglesworth, was born at 6 Bruce Terrace, Tottenham, Middlesex, in 1827, and is now (1891) Matron of the Magdalen Asylum, Streatham. She has composed a large number of small poetical works, and has contributed numerous hymns and poems to the periodical press. The works from which most of her hymns in common use are taken, are: Verses for the Sundays and Holidays of the Christian Seasons, 1863; (2) Verses for Christian Children, 1871; (3) Hymns for the Feasts, and other Verses, 1878; (4) Songs of Perseverance, 1885, &c. These hymns in common use include:— 1. Almighty Father, God of love. Morning. 2. Father, look upon Thy children. Confirmation. 3. God chooseth out the place. God the Guide. 4. God sets a still small voice. Conscience. 5. How beautiful is earth. Heaven. 6. Little children, Advent bids you. Advent. 7. O Fount of life and beauty. St. Barnabas. 8. Thou Who with dying lips For Orphans. 9. When we in holy worship. Divine Worship. Miss Wiglesworth's hymns are admirably suited, through their simplicity and tenderness, for the use of children. (Kingsmuir, Scotland, September 15, 1864--December 14, 1951, Montreal, Quebec). Congregationalist/United Church. Studied at the University of Edinburgh, whose D.D. he received in 1917. Pastorates at Dunfermline (1890-1896) and Newcastle (1896-1903) in Britain; principal of Nottingham Theological Institute, 1903-1919; of Congregational College (Montreal), 1919-1925; and of United Theological College (1925-1939), with which his previous school merged when Canada's Congregationalists entered the church union of 1925.
