Along the Silent Path

Author: M. B. S. C. Meter: 6.6.8.6 D Appears in 6 hymnals Refrain First Line: Bid us, O Lord, to go Lyrics: 1 Along the silent path By viewless spirits trod, Another little traveler Hath gone to be with God. Refrain: Bid us, O Lord, to go, Or bid us here to stay; We’ll walk with Thee while here below, Or up the silent way. 2 Gone up from human love To higher love and care; From pain below to peace above, In mansions, oh, so fair! [Refrain] 3 Attune our hearts, O Lord, Though they with sorrow swell, To say this meek, submissive word— “Thou doest all things well.” [Refrain] Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14 Used With Tune: [Along the silent path] Text Sources: Timeless Truths (http://library.timelesstruths.org/music/Along_the_Silent_Path); Faith Publishing House, Echoes from Heaven, 1976 (51); The Gospel Trumpet Company, Select Hymns, 1911 (153)

Bless'd Are the Pure in Heart

Author: John Keble Meter: 6.6.8.6 D Appears in 404 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Bless'd are the pure in heart, for they shall see our God; the secret of the Lord is theirs; their soul is Christ's abode. Might mortal thought presume to guess an angel's lay, such are the notes that echo through the courts of heav'n today. 2 Such the triumphal hymns on Zion's Prince that wait, in high procession passing on towards his temple gate. Give ear, ye kings; bow down, ye rulers of the earth– this, this is he, your priest by grace, your God and King by birth. 3 No pomp of earthly guards attends with sword and spear, and all defying, dauntless, look their monarch's way to clear: yet are there more with him than all that are with you– the armies of the highest heav'n, all righteous, good, and true. 4 But who is he, though bowed by years, erect in heart, whose prayers are struggling with his tears? "Lord, let me now depart; now hath thy servant seen thy saving health, O Lord: 'tis time that I depart in peace, according to thy word." 5 Yet swells the pomp: one more comes forth to bless her God: full four-score years, meek widow, she her heav'nward way hath trod: she who to earthly joys so long had giv'n farewell, now sees, unlooked for, heav'n on earth, Christ in his Israel. 6 Wide open from that hour the temple gates are set, and still the saints rejoicing there the holy Child have met. Still to the lowly soul he doth himself impart, and for his cradle and his throne chooseth the pure in heart. A Few More Years Shall Roll

Author: Leighton G Hayne Meter: 6.6.8.6 D Appears in 384 hymnals Lyrics: 1 A few more years shall roll, A few more seasons come; And we shall be with those that rest, Asleep within the tomb. Then, O my Lord, prepare My soul for that blest day; O wash me in Thy precious blood, And take my sins away! 2 A few more storms shall beat On this wild, rocky shore, And we shall be where tempests cease And surges swell no more. Then, O my Lord, prepare My soul for that blest day; O wash me in Thy precious blood, And take my sins away! 3 A few more struggles here, A few more partings o’er, A few more toils, a few more tears, And we shall weep no more. Then, O my Lord, prepare My soul for that blest day; O wash me in Thy precious blood, And take my sins away! Amen. Topics: Zion Connectional Hymns Used With Tune: BEALOTH

Great Giver of All Good

Author: Asa Fitz; Rev. Godfrey Thring Meter: 6.6.8.6 D Appears in 11 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Great Giver of all good, To Thee our thanks we yield For all the beauties of the wood, Of hill, and dale, and field. Ten thousand various flow’rs To Thee sweet off’rings bear, And joyous birds in woodlands bow’rs Sing forth Thy tender care. 2 The fields on ev’ry side The trees on ev’ry hill, The glorious sun, the rolling tide, Proclaim Thy wonders still. But trees, and fields, and skies Still praise a God unknown; For gratitude and love can rise From living hearts alone. 3 These living hearts of ours Thy holy Name would bless; The blossoms of the thousand flow’rs Would please the Saviour less. While earth itself decays, Our souls can never die; O tune them all to sing Thy praise In better songs on high. Topics: Flower Services Used With Tune: BUERMEYER

O where shall rest be found

Author: James Montgomery Meter: 6.6.8.6 D Appears in 651 hymnals Lyrics: O where shall rest be found, Rest for the weary soul? 'Twere vain the ocean-depths to sound, Or pierce to either pole; The world can never give The bliss for which we sigh; 'Tis not the whole of life to live; Nor all of death to die. 214 Beyond this vale of tears, There is a life above, Unmeasured by the flight of years; And all that life is love;-- There is a death, whose pang Ontlasts the fleeting breath; O what eternal horrors hang Around "the second death!" Lord God of truth and grace, Teach us that death to shun, Lest we be banish'd from Thy face, And evermore undone: Here would we end our quest; Alone are found in Thee, The life of perfect love,--the rest Of immortality. Urge on your rapid course

Author: C. Wesley Meter: 6.6.8.6 D Appears in 38 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Urge on your rapid course, Ye blood-besprinkled bands; The heavenly kingdom suffers force; 'Tis seized by violent hands: See there the starry crown That glitters through the skies; Satan, the world, and sin tread down, And take the glorious prize. 2 Through much distress and pain, Through many a conflict here, Through blood ye must the entrance gain, Yet, oh, disdain to fear: Courage, your Captain cries, Who all your toil foreknew; Toil ye shall have, yet all despise; I have o'ercome for you. 3 The world can not withstand Its ancient Conqueror; The world must sink beneath the Hand Which arms us for the war: This is the victory-- Before our faith they fall; Jesus hath died for you and me; Believe, and conquer all.
