1878 - 1939 Person Name: Frances Whitmarsh Wile, 1878- Author of "All beautiful the march of days" in American Junior Church School Hymnal Wile, Mrs. Frances Whitmarsh. (Bristol Centre, New York, December 2, 1878--July 31, 1939, Rochester, N.Y.). Married A.J. Wile in 1901. Her lovely hymn for use in winter, beginning "All beautiful the march of days" was written about 1907 while she was a parishioner of Rev. William C. Gannett, in Rochester, N.Y., in consultation with him, and was included in Gannett and Hosmer's revised edition of Unity Hymns and Chorals, 1911, from which it passed into The New Hymn and Tune Book, 1914, and Hymns of the Spirit, 1937. --Henry Wilder Foote, DNAH Archives ================================ Born: 1878, Bristol Valley, New York. Ambrose N. Blatchford

1842 - 1924 Person Name: A. N. Blatchford Author of "O Lord of life, for all Thy care" in The Day School Hymn Book Blatchford, Ambrose Nichols, B.A., born at Plymouth, 1842, and educated for the Unitarian Ministry at Manchester New College, London. He also graduated at the London University as B.A. In 1866, he became junior colleague to the late Rev. William James, Minister of Lewin's Mead Meeting, Bristol, and on the death of Mr. James, in 1876, the sole pastor. Mr. Blatchford's hymns were written for the Sunday School anniversary services at Lewin's Mead Meeting, on the dates given below, and were adapted to existing melodies. They were first printed as fly-leaves and include:— 1. A gladsome hymn of praise we sing. Praise. 1876. 2. Awake to the duty, prepare for the strife. Duty. 1878. 3. Lord, without Thy constant blessing. Divine Help. 1875. 4. Night clouds around us silently are stealing. Evening. 1878. 5. O Lord of Life, for all Thy care. Praise. 1875. 6. Roger Edwards

1811 - 1886 Person Name: Parch Roger Edwards Author of "Ymdeithio'r ym wrth arch ein Tad" in Cân a Mawl Edwards, Roger, a celebrated Welsh Calvinistic minister, was born at Bala, Jan. 22, 1811. He was closely associated with the literary productions of the Calvinistic Methodists, and was editor for many years of their magazine and their reviews. He died at Mold, July 19, 1886. He edited a denominational hymn-book in 1840, for which he wrote several hymns. Frank von Christierson

1900 - 1996 Person Name: Frank von Christierson, 1900- Author of "As Men of Old Their First Fruits Brought" in Hymnal of the Church of God Frank von Christierson (1900-1996) was born near Helsinki, Finland. He attended San Jose (California) High School, Stanford University (BA, Psychology, 1923), and San Francisco Theological Seminary (BD 1929). In 1983 he was awarded the citation of distinguished alumnus, and became a Fellow of The Hymn Society. He has served as youth director at First Presbyterian Church, San Luis Obispo, and pastor at Calvary Presbyterian Church, Citrus Heights, California. He has published a hymnal collection entitled Make a Joyful Noise (1987) and is represented in many hymnals. Three of his hymn texts have been included in the new Hope hymnal Worship & Rejoice (2001). http://www.hopepublishing.com/html ========================= After serving for thirty-seven years as a minister of the United Presbyterian Church in Berkeley, North Hollywood and Sacramento, California, Rev. Frank con Christierson has retired to serve as "Interim minister" in the Central Area of the Synod of California. He has been moderator of San Francisco Presbytery and of Los Angeles Presbytery, and has just completed three years as chairman of radio and television for the Sacramento Area Council of Churches. Born in Finland, he was brought to America as a boy of four. He is a graduate of Stanford University and of San Francisco Theological Seminary.
