Come, All Come, in Celebration for the Faith

Author: Mary Jackson Cathey Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 1 hymnal First Line: Come, all come, in celebration for the faith that we profess Lyrics: Come, all come, in celebration for the faith that we profess, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Triune God whom we profess. All believers who before us kept the faith and passed it on, gave to us a sacred blessing so that we now pass it on. Sing, all sing, in jubilation for the church to lead and guide in fulfilling Christ's great mission spread the Gospel far and wide. When God sent the Holy Spirit then the church received its birth, fellowship of hope and pardon is Christ's body here on earth. Join, all join, in prayer and praises for disciples of the past who gave lives of constant service sharing precepts that would last. Through their nurture and direction constant prayer and fervent drive with the guidance of the Spirit churches grew to serve and thrive. Worship God with true thanksgiving for the Bible, God's own Word, from the wisdom of its pages comes the message to be heard: tend the sick and feed the hungry, give to all who are in need, visit those who are in prison as we serve in word and deed. Speak of God in awe and wonder for creation and our lives. By God's goodness and God's mercy in our faith all hope survives. From the earth to boundless heavens through all lands, from shore to shore, tell God's saving grace and promise life with God forevermore.

It Is Better Farther On

Author: Unknown Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 13 hymnals First Line: Hark! I hear Hope sweetly singing Lyrics: 1 Hark! I hear Hope sweetly singing Softly in an undertone, Singing as if God had taught her, “It is better farther on.” Night and day I hear her singing— Singing while I sit alone, Singing so my heart may hear it, “It is better farther on.” 2 When my faith took hold on Jesus, Light divine within me shone, And I know since that glad moment, “It is better farther on.” I have plunged into the fountain, Flowing free for everyone; I am saved and Hope is singing, “It is better farther on.” 3 Farther on, but how much farther? Count the milestones one by one; No, no counting, only trusting— “It is better farther on.” Rest, my soul, in hope forever, all my doubts and fears are gone; Jesus is my Savior, Keeper— “It is better farther on.” Scripture: Philippians 3:13-14 Used With Tune: [Hark! I hear Hope sweetly singing] Text Sources: Timeless Truths (http://library.timelesstruths.org/music/It_Is_Better_Farther_On); Andrew L. Praise The Lord, My Soul

Author: Susan H. Peterson, 1950-2004 Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 1 hymnal First Line: Praise the Lord, my soul, O praise Him Lyrics: 1 Praise the Lord, my soul, O praise Him; All within me, praise His name. Praise the Lord for all His blessings, And forget not whence they came. God forgives me all my failings, Heals my sickness by His power, Saves my life from certain judgment, Crowns with love and care each hour. 2 My desires He fills with good things; Like the eagle, I’m renewed. The oppressed are given justice, And God’s ways by all are viewed. He’s compassionate and gracious, Slow to anger, full of love, Treats us not based on our merit, Nor sends wrath from Heav’n above. 3 High as is the sky above us, Just as great, God’s love for men. Far as east and west are distanced, He’s removed from us our sin. As a father has compassion, So God’s mercy overflows. He remembers how He formed us, And our frame and substance knows. 4 As for man, his days are transient, Like a flower of the field, Flourishing, then quickly fading, And its place no memories yields. But God’s love is everlasting, Stretching on from day to day, And His righteousness continues, Reaching all who will obey. 5 God has set His throne in Heaven, And His kingdom rules o’er all. Praise the Lord, then, you His servants, You who heed your master’s call. Praise the Lord, you hosts in Heaven, Angels who obey His will. Praise the Lord in all creation; Praise the Lord, O praise, my soul! Used With Tune: VISION

God of Wonder, God of Thunder

Author: Shirley Erena Murray, 1931- Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 1 hymnal Lyrics: 1 God of wonder, God of thunder, God of impact and release, God of riddle and of reason, God of passion and of peace— to your mystery and marvel we return to give you praise, every year with you beginning to the closing of our days. 2 Seasons' turning, seasons' learning, all are held within your span: times of growing, times of knowing love in woman, child, and man, calendar of calm and crisis, hurt and healing, high success, all the instants of our being now we bring for you to bless. 3 For we name you and we claim you, Father, Mother, Spirit, Friend: you are vision past our vision, you are end beyond our end; all the circles, all the cycles of our little finite phase now we give into your keeping, trusting you through all our days. Topics: Discernment; Feminine Images; God Father; God Mother; God's Nature; New Year; Praise; Trinity; Trust; Wonder Scripture: Psalm 115:1 Used With Tune: IN BABILONE
