Behold, What Light Rolls Back the Sky?

Author: Joshua F. Drake Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.8.7 Appears in 1 hymnal Lyrics: 1. Behold, what light rolls back the sky? What fear and trepidation! The trumpets blast a vict’ry cry For ransomed congregations. And leading them, their sovereign head, Is Christ the judge of quick and dead, Demanding exultation. 2. No doubt or atheistic thought Shall then deny God’s power. Those who against his gospel fought Shall wail and gnash and cower. For those who claim they could not know, Creation’s witness here below Condemns them in that hour. 3. The spirit-called and blood-redeemed Shall have full vindication, Enjoying God with bliss undreamed In holy consummation. And those that sleep in Christ, who rise With flesh made new before their eyes, Receive glorification. 4. Then let our voice erupt in song In prayer for His returning. Be pleased, Lord, not to tarry long To end creation’s yearning. Acquitted at your judgment seat, We’ll cast our crowns before your feet— Not ours but Christ’s the earning.

Stand we prepared to see and hear

Sound aloud Jehovah's praises

Author: Rev. H. A. Martin Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.8.7 Appears in 22 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Sound aloud Jehovah's praises, Tell abroad the awful Name; Heaven the ceaseless anthem raises, Let the earth her God proclaim: God, the hope of every nation, God, the source of consolation, Holy, blessèd Trinity! Holy, blessèd Trinity! 2 This the Name from ancient ages Hidden in its dazzling light; This the Name that kings and sages, Prayed and strove to know aright, Through God's wondrous Incarnation, Now revealed the world's salvation, Ever blessèd Trinity! Ever blessèd Trinity! 3 Into this great Name and holy, We all tribes and tongues baptize; Thus the Highest owns the lowly, Homeward, heavenward, bids them rise; Gathers them from every nation, Bids them join in adoration Of the blessèd Trinity! Of the blessèd Trinity! 4 In this Name the heart rejoices, Pouring forth its secret prayer: In this Name we lift our voices, And our common faith declare; Offering humble supplication, Thanks, and praise, and veneration To the blessèd Trinity! To the blessèd Trinity! 5 Glory be to God the Father, Glory be to God the Son, Glory be to God the Spirit, Great Jehovah, Three in One. Praise from all in earth and heaven Unto Thee be ever given, Holy, blessèd Trinity! Holy, blessèd Trinity! Amen. Topics: Adoration Used With Tune: [Sound aloud Jehovah's praise]

O God, If Thy Beloved Son

Author: H. Brueckner; Joh. Heermann Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.8.7 Appears in 1 hymnal Lyrics: 1 O God, if Thy beloved Son Had not to earth descended, Nor by His death salvation won, My woe would not be ended. This sinful, wretched soul of mine Would then in hell forever pine Because of my transgression. 2 But now sweet peace and rest I find, My soul no more despairing, Since He, the sin of all mankind I wondrous patience bearing, For me has true atonement made, Thine ever righteous wrath allayed, And wrought my soul's salvation. 3 I trust in Him with all my heart, And all my sorrow ceases; His wounds abiding peace impart, His blood from guilt releases, Enables me free grace to gain And washes me from ev'ry stain, that snow-white I am rendered. 4 His blood affords me sure relief, He is my joy forever; Now from Thy love no pain or grief My ransomed soul shall sever. The crown of life, by Thy dear Son For me, a wretched sinner, won. No devil can wrest from me. 5 All human righteousness is vain, Our works can never save us; True righteousness by faith we gain, The blood of Christ's must lave us. His death, that perfect sacrifice, Has paid the all-sufficient price; In Him my hope is anchored. Topics: The Means of Grace The Redeemer Used With Tune: MONMOUTH
