Author of popular songs, "Don't Give Up the Ship" and "The Mountaineer," and of thirteen church music books; published The Sacred Star hymnal, 1861, Boston. Wrote words of Easter hymn commencing, "Jesus Christ, our precious Savior," and hymn "Ever gracious, loving Savior, Come and bless us from on high." --E.F. 1828 - 1888 Composer of "BARNBY'S HYMNARY, TUNE 525" in Common Service Book of the Lutheran Church William Winn; 1828, Bramham, Yorkshire Evangelical Lutheran Hymnal, 1908 William Winn was an English bass singer and composer who studied under Georg Smart and Francesco Schira.
