Author: Watts Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 55 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 14 Lyrics: 1 I’ll speak the honours of my King. His form divinely fair; None of the sons of mortal race May with the Lord compare. 2 Sweet is thy speech, and heavenly grace Upon thy lips is shed; Thy God with blessings infinite Has crowned thy sacred head. 3 Gird on thy sword, victorious Prince, Ride with majestic sway; Thy terror shall strike through thy foes And make the world obey. 4 Thy throne, O God, for ever stands; Thy word of grace shall prove A peaceful sceptre in thy hands To rule thy saints by love. 5 Justice and truth attend thee still, But mercy is thy choice; And God, thy God, thy soul shall fill With most peculiar joys.

All in All

Author: John Murray Meter: Irregular Appears in 4 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 14:2-3 First Line: Come, tho' we can truly sing Lyrics: 1 Cone, tho' we can truly sing, In our flesh dwells no good thing; Yet on him who gives us all, We're embolden'd still to call. 2 Blind, and foolish once were we, Christ our wisdom now we see; In this wisdom we confide, By this we are justifi'd; 3 Once in breaking God's command, Doom'd to death beneath his hand; Now we're call'd to own, and bless, Jesus Christ our righteousness. 4 Without purity of heart Truth divine will say depart, But this holiness we find, In the Saviour of mankind. 5 Many, mighty are our foes! Human these, angelic those, Where for refuge shall we flee? Christ our great redemption see! 6 Seraphs, flames of sacred fire, View this myst'ry with desire; Hark! the bright enraptur'd throng Catch, and raise the grateful song. 7 O ye thrones of heav'nly light, Since you're sav'd from endless night, And since we are rais'd to you, Let us still the song pursue. A Worldling, wretched, vile and base

Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 3 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 14 Lyrics: 1 A Worldling, wretched, vile and base, Not subject to restraining grace; But yielded to his lusts and pride, And set all fear of God aside. 2 Though he had riches laid in store, Yet no compassion on the poor! A beggar in a helpless state, Found no assistance at his gate. 3 The worldling spent his precious days, In Luxuries, in sports and plays-- While the poor beggar lay distress'd, With poverty and sores oppress'd. 4 But to them both it proved strange, To meet with such a sudden change; The worldling sent to endless pain, The beggar plac'd with Christ to reign. 5 This is the sinners awful case: They who neglect the time of grace; They cry for help, but O too late! When once they share their lot and fate. 6 The worldlilng pray'd to get relief, To metigate his pain and grief; But father Abr'am could not grant that cooling drop which he did want. 7 If we seek heaven here on earth, We loose the heav'n of greater worth; To bear the Cross with Jesus here, Intitles us to glory there. 8 Dear Saviour, make us truly wise, All sinful pleasures to despise-- The greatest evil we can do: That is to choose our heav'n below. Jehovah who should come

Author: John Relly Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 3 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 14:6 First Line: How strange the tidings, how profound! Lyrics: 1 How strange the tidings, how profound! That God a man should be; In servant's form the Lord was found, To make us S\servants free. 2 Our father lov'd us worms so well, He put our nature on, And thus became Immanuel, The Father and the Son. 3 He finish'd what his love began, For Adam's ruin'd race; We see the God shine thro' the man, In dear Imman'el's face. 4 This sacred unity maintains Our constant peace with God: Our sins aton'd for by his pains, His sorrow and his blood. The Lord looked down from heaven's high tower

Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 3 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 14 Lyrics: 1 the Lord looked down from heaven's high tower, And all the sons of men did view, To see if any owned His power, If any truth or justice knew; 2 But all, He saw, were gone aside, All were degenerate grown, and base; None took religion for their guide, Not one of all the sinful race. 3 How will they tremble, then, for fear, When His just wrath shall them o'ertake: For to the righteous God is near, And never will their cause forsake. 4 Oh that from Sion he'd employ His might, and burst th' oppressive band! Then shouts of universal joy Should loudly echo through the land. Topics: Man a Sinner Depraved

Vain foolish Men profanely boast

Appears in 2 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 14 Lyrics: 1 Vain foolish Men profanely boast Of God and true Religion: Their faithless Hearts are full of Lust, Their Life's a Contradiction: Corrupted is their very Frame; God's Holiness abhors the same; There's None doth Good, but Evil. II. The Lord, from his coelestial Throne, Look'd down on evr'y Creature, To find one Man who had begun To love God's holy Nature; But ll the Race was gone astray, All had forsook the saving Way Of CHRIST'S bright Revelation. III. How long will they be ignorant Of their Abomination, Who thus despise my Covenant, Nor spare my Holy Nation? They never call upon the Lord, But trust unto their golden Hoard, And turn their own Defenders. IV. Yet are their Hearts in constant Pain, And secret Fear and Trembling. God with his SION will remain, Where Saints are still assembling: But you deride the Poors' Advice, Their greatest Comfort you despise, That God's their only Refuge. V. O, that the joyful Day wou'd come, To change our mournful Station, When God will bring his Children home, And finish our Salvation! Then shall the Tribes of JACOB sing, And JUDAH praise their Lord and King, With lasting HALLELUJAHS. Topics: True and False Christianity
