By Faith We Are Divinely Sure

Author: H. A. Brorson Hymnal: Hymnal for Church and Home #188 (1927) Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.8.7 Lyrics: 1 By faith we are divinely sure That grace to us is given. No human effort can secure This precious gift from heaven. 'Tis God Himself who must begin The blessed work of faith within And lead us to the Savior. 2 A wondrous blessing is our faith, It gives the peace we treasure, It comforts us in life and death And grants us joy's full measure. It helps us overcome our grief, And for our doubts we find relief By trusting in God's promise. 3 Tho' in a dark and fearsome hour My sins may sore accuse me, God shall sustain me by His pow'r And not His grace refuse me. More than my sins His grace abounds, A truth that in His Word resounds For all repentant sinners. 4 The Word of God can never fail, It is the rock of ages When Satan doth my faith assail, Or doubt its battle wages. No more shall fear my soul enfold, Since I by faith God's grace behold, Which ev'ry fear can banish. 5 My faith shall keep in mind its goal And constantly endeavor To conquer what ensnares the soul And would from God me sever. While holding fast its gleaming shield, The Spirit's sword I too will wield, Until my foes are vanquished. 6 Now in this faith I will abide, Until my days are ended. I will not fear what may betide, I am by faith defended. God's Word a token doth remain That in this faith I shall retain The promised crown and glory. Lift your voice rejoicing, Mary

Author: Elizabeth Rundle Charles, 1828-1896 Hymnal: The Hymnal 1982 #190 (1985) Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.8.7 Lyrics: 1. Lift your voice rejoicing, Mary, Christ has risen from the tomb; on the cross a suffering victim, now as victor he is come. Whom your tears in death were mourning, welcome with your smiles returning. Let your alleluias rise! 2. Raise your weary eyelids, Mary, see him living evermore; see his countenance, how gracious, see the wounds for you he bore. All the glory of the morning pales before those wounds redeeming. Let your alleluias rise! 3. Life is yours for ever, Mary, for your light is come once more and the strength of death is broken; now your songs of joy outpour. Ended now the night of sorrow, love has brought the blessed morrow. Let your alleluias rise! Topics: Easter Languages: English Tune Title: FISK OF GLOUCESTER

By Faith We Please The Lord On High

Author: P. C. Paulsen Hymnal: Hymnal for Church and Home #190 (1927) Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.8.7 Lyrics: 1 By faith we please the Lord on high, And with His children gather; By faith we unto Him draw nigh And call Him, Abba, Father; By faith we count the world but loss That we may flock around the cross And fight His holy battles. 2 By faith we put His armor on, The gospel of salvation, And watch the foe of Christ, His Son, With pray'r and supplication, And when the trumpet sounds the call, With faith we hasten, one and all, To meet the hordes of darkness. 3 In Christ, our Lord, we firmly stand, Despite their onrush stunning, And with the Spirit's sword in hand We foil their craft and cunning; The shield of faith protects our hearts And quenches all their fiery darts, They go to grim disaster. 4 O Lord, Thy Holy Spirit send, Our hearts with zeal inspiring, That we may fight until the end, With strength and faith untiring; Oh, may at last around Thy throne We hail Thee Lord and King alone, Of faith the blessed Giver. Thy Scepter, Jesus, Shall Extend

Author: Frans Michael Franzen, 1772-1847 Hymnal: Hymnal and Order of Service #192a (1901) Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.8.7 Lyrics: 1 Thy scepter, Jesus, shall extend As far as day prevaileth; Thy glorious kingdom, without end, Shall stand when all else faileth, Thy blessed Name shall be confessed, And round Thy cross forever blest, Shall kings and people gather. 2 The child that's born to Thee we take, to thee in death we hasten; In joy we often Thee forsake, But not when sorrows chasten. Where truth and virtue are oppressed, Where sorrow dwells, pain and unrest, Thy help alone availeth. 3 Come, Jesus, then, in weal and woe, In life and death be near us; Thy grace upon our hearts bestow, And let Thy Spirit cheer us. For every conflict strength afford, And gather us in peace, O Lord, When all the world Thou judgest. Topics: The Church Languages: English Tune Title: ES IST GEWISSLICH AN DER ZEIT
