George Lockwood

b. 1946 Person Name: George Lockwood, b. 1946 Translator of "Baptized in Water (Ya Bautizados)" in Oramos Cantando = We Pray In Song Rev. George Lockwood was born in 1946 and has been a missionary to Costa Rica. He has pastored Spanish-speaking congregations in both Arizona and California and served on the editorial committee for the Methodist hymnal supplement Celebremos II. In addition, Lockwood has traveled throughout Central and South America interviewing church musicians and gathering new hymns from both Spanish and Portuguese cultures which he then presents at conferences and workshops. Jack Boyd

b. 1932 Arranger of "BUNESSAN" in Great Songs of the Church (Revised) Jack Arthur Boyd (b. Indianapolis, Indiana, February 9, 1932) was the music editor of *Great Songs of the Church, Revised*, published by ACU Press in 1986. He earned a B.S. degree in music education from Abilene Christian University, a masters degree in music composition and theory from the University of North Texas, and a Ph.D. in choral literature from the University of Iowa. Boyd edited *Children, Rejoice!* (Sweet, 1979) and he authored *Rehearsal Guide for the Choral Director* (Parker, 1970) and *Leading the Lord's Singing* (Quality, 1981). He is a member of Churches of Christ and lives in Abilene, Texas. Monty Lynn

Lawrence Bartlett

1933 - 2002 Person Name: Lawrence Francis Bartlett, 1933 Arranger of "BUNESSAN" in Together in Song Lawrence Bartlett was born in Sydney on the February 13, 1933. He studied at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music between 1950 and 1957, and at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music in 1960. He also studied organ, piano, singing and composition. He was the Assistant Director of Music at the King's School, Parramatta, a tutor in church music at Ridley College in Melbourne and in 1965 he was acting cathedral organist and master of the choristers at St Andrew's Cathedral in Sydney. Bartlett was an Anglican clergyman and wrote many compositions suitable for church performance. Bartlett was also a member of the Australian Hymn Book committee, and has been involved in the initiation of schemes for promoting the composition and performance of new liturgical music. Mary Macdonald

1789 - 1872 Person Name: Mary Macdonald of Mull Author of "Child in the Manger" in Rejoice in the Lord Mary MacDougal MacDonald United Kingdom 1789-1872. Born at Ardtun, daughter of a farmer and Baptist cleric, Duncan MacDougal, northeast of Bunessan on the Ross of Mull, she was a Gaelic poet who lived at Cancan, Bunessan on Mull, Scotland. She never spoke English. She married Neil MacDonald and settled into a life as a crofter’s wife. While at her spinning wheel she passed time by singing hymns and poems, some of her own composition. She was a devout Baptist. Some of her hymns reached beyond her locality. The tune of her best known hymn (same tune as hymn: “Morning has broken”) was an old Scottish melody she attached to her lyrics that helped popularize the hymn, translated from the Gaelic in 1888 by Lachlan McBean of Scotland. Alec Wyton

1921 - 2007 Person Name: Alec Wyton, b. 1921 Harmonizer of "BUNESSAN" in The Hymnal 1982 Alec Wyton is described in Grove's Dictionary of Music and Musicians, by saying, "Wyton has brought together and caused to flourish three separate traditions: English church music, American church music and music from outside the churches." Also bringing together clergy and musicians of the Episcopal Church, he was the Coordinator of the Standing Commission on Church Music from 1974 to 1985; he was Minister of Music at St. Stephen's Church, in Ridgefield, Conn., from 1987 until his appointment as Minister of Music Emeritus in 2004; and he was Founder and Chairman of the Church Music Department of the Manhattan School of Music. Wyton is the award-winning ASCAP composer of over 100 published works; editor of the Anglican Chant Psalter; contributor of articles to professional journals; performer, teacher and lecturer: he is the complete musician. From 1954 to 1974 he was Organist and Master of the Choristers at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine and Headmaster of the Cathedral Choir School. He taught at Union Theological Seminary in NYC and was Chairman of the Organ Department at Westminster Choir College, Princeton. Wyton was born in London in 1921. He earned degrees from the Royal Academy of Music and Oxford University. He came to the United States in 1950, working briefly in Dallas and St. Louis. Wyton died on March 18, 2007, after a prolonged illness. He has traveled throughout the US and Canada playing recitals, conducting workshops, master classes and hymn festivals stressing the coexistence in liturgy of great music and literature of the past with new and exciting works by artists of our time. --www.selahpub.com
