Sing with Humble Hearts Your Praises

Author: John Miller; Lewis Renatus West Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 7 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 50:23 Lyrics: 1 Sing with humble hearts your praises for our Savior’s boundless grace; pay due homage to Christ Jesus, come with thanks before his face. Praise him for his death and bleeding, all our happiness lies there; praise him for his gracious leading, praise your faithful Shepherd’s care. 2 Praise for ev'ry scene distressing, praise for all he did endure. Praise for ev'ry gift and blessing which his griefs for us procure. In this ransomed congregation shall his death our theme remain, till he comes with full salvation, Lord of glory, Lamb once slain. 3 Christ, to purchase our salvation, did assume humanity; for Lord Jesus' bitter passion may we ever thankful be. Filled with awe and humbly bowing, at his feet we prostrate fall, gratefully this truth avowing, that Christ is our all in all. O That Day of Dread and Wonder

Author: Henry F. Lyte, 1793-1847 Meter: Irregular Appears in 2 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 50 Lyrics: 1 O that day of dread and wonder, When to judgment Christ shall come! When a voice of more than thunder, Sounding through the silent tomb, Shall awaken, All to their eternal doom! 2 Midst the crowds who then assemble, Naked at their Judge’s throne, Who of all the most shall tremble? They that now among His own Dwell and worship, But whom Christ has never known. 3 Empty forms and loud profession, Offerings heaped upon His shrine, Where there is no heart impression, Cannot please the eye Divine. All is worthless, Till the spirit, Lord, is Thine. 4 Light a flame of love within us; Tune our souls to prayer and praise; To Thine own bless'd image win us; Guide us in Thy righteous ways. Here convert us, And at last to glory raise.

Psalm 50

Author: Henry Francis Lyte Meter: 8.8.6.8.8.6 Appears in 2 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 50 First Line: 'Tis he! 'tis he! the Son of God Lyrics: 1. ’Tis he! ’tis he! The Son of God! He sends his awesome voice abroad: Let Earth her Lord revere! With throngs of saints behold Him come; The world before her judge is dumb And waits her doom to hear. 2. He calls to Heav'n, he calls to Earth; The nations from their tombs come forth And meet before His face. "Approach, ye, first," the Savior cries, "Whose boast is in my sacrifice, And covenant of grace." 3. "My people, hear! Your God will speak: No empty rites and forms I seek, No specious act or word: Mine eye is on the heart within, And there the service must begin That satisfies the Lord." 4. "Where secret wickedness I see The fawning lip or bending knee Will draw my scorn and hate!" Lord, on our souls this truth impress, And make us all that we profess, Ere yet it be too late! Topics: Ordinary Time Week 5 Used With Tune: SONG 18
