God, We Praise You!

Author: Christopher Idle Hymnal: The Worshiping Church #39 (1990) Meter: 8.7.8.7 D First Line: God, we praise you! God we bless you! Lyrics: 1 God, we praise you! God, we bless you! God, we name you sovereign Lord! Mighty King whom angels worship, Father, by your church adored: all creation shows your glory, heaven and earth draw near your throne singing "Holy, holy, holy, Lord of hosts, and God alone!" 2 True apostles, faithful prophets, saints who set their world ablaze, martyrs, once unknown, unheeded, join one growing song of praise, while your church on earth confesses one majestic Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, God, our hope eternally. 3 Jesus Christ, the king of glory, everlasting Son of God, humble was your virgin mother, hard the lonely path you trod: by your cross is sin defeated, hell confronted face to face, heaven opened to believers, sinners justified by grace. 4 Christ, at God's right hand victorious, you will judge the world you made; Lord, in mercy help your servants for whose freedom you have paid: raise us up from dust to glory, guard us from all sin today; King enthroned above all praises, save your people, God, we pray. Topics: All Saints' Day; Biblical Canticles; God Power; God Sovereign; Heritage; Martyrs; Praise of God; Trinity Sunday Scripture: Psalm 9:1 Languages: English Tune Title: RUSTINGTON

God, In Human Flesh Appearing

Author: M. Loy; Philipp Friedrich Hiller Hymnal: American Lutheran Hymnal #39 (1930) Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Lyrics: 1 God, in human flesh appearing, Took the children to His breast, Lambs with His green pastures cheering, Fitting for His heav'nly rest; This is gentleness unbounded, This is lowliness of heart; All are by His love surrounded, None are ever bid depart. 2 Lord, I bless Thy mercy endless, For Thy pleasure is to bless; Me, too, when my soul was friendless, Thou didst to Thy bosom press; For I, too, to Thee was given In the pure baptismal wave; There Thou mad'st me heir of heaven, Who hast died my soul to save. 3 Feeble is the love of mother, Father's blessings are as naught When compared, my King and Brother, With the wonders Thou hast wrought; Thus it pleased Thy heav'nly meekness; Pleasing also be my praise, Till my songs of earthly weakness Burst into celestial lays. Topics: The Means of Grace The Sarraments-Holy Baptism Languages: English Tune Title: LAMBS OF JESUS

God the Lord, the king almighty

Author: Christopher Martin Idle (b. 1938) Hymnal: Church Hymnary (4th ed.) #39 (2005) Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Lyrics: 1 God the Lord, the King almighty, calls the earth from east to west: shining out from Zion's splendour, city loveliest and best, comes our God! He breaks the silence, robed in burning majesty: 'Gather all my covenant people, bound by sacrifice to me'. 2 'Hear me testify against you: listen, Israel, as I speak: I do not require your offerings, sacrifice I do not seek. Mountain birds and meadow creatures, Cattle on a thousand hills, all the beasts are my possession, moving as their maker wills.' 3 God who owns the whole creation needs no gift, no food, no house: bring to him your hearts' thanksgiving: God most high will hear your vows. Trust him in the day of trouble, call to him who will redeem: God will be your strong deliverer, his renown your daily theme. 4 Lies increase and evil prospers; God is silent, while men say, 'He has gone; let us forget him!' thinking he is false as they. But his word will judge or save us; let us come before his throne giving thanks, receiving mercy: God's salvation now made known. Topics: Christian Year Advent; Creation; Salvation and Redemption; Word of God Scripture: Psalm 50 Languages: English Tune Title: HYFRYDOL
