The time is drawing near

Author: John Brownlie Meter: 6.6.8.6 D Appears in 4 hymnals Lyrics: I The time is drawing near, It cannot tarry long, When they who face the conflict here, Shall join the glorious throng, Where gladness fills each heart, And honour crowns each brow;— For tireless service fit me, Lord, By willing service now. II Let no depressing thought My brooding mind depress; But let me hear, in winning tones, What they who serve possess, Where gladness fills each heart, etc. III Let sunshine flood the soul, When threatening night descends, That I may see the light serene No sunset ever ends. Where gladness fills each heart, etc. IV Let strength my spirit nerve, That, with each labour done, I may, like those who serve above, See some new task begun; Where gladness fills each heart, etc. V The time is drawing near,— Till that bright morning break, May I, with those who see Thy face, Thy will, my pleasure make: Where gladness fills each heart, etc. Topics: Aspirations

We Sing the Boundless Praise

Author: Joseph C. Macaulay Meter: 6.6.8.6 D Appears in 2 hymnals Lyrics: 1 We sing the boundless praise Of Him who reigns on high, And of His glorious Son, the Lamb Who brought salvation nigh. Thine everlasting pow'r And majesty we sing, But with our songs of sov'reign grace We'll make heav'n's arches ring. 2 Thy precious blood alone, O Christ, has brought us near; No longer strangers, God in love Calls us His children dear. The title of the Lamb Thou bearest still in heav'n. Memorial of Thy sacrifice, And love to sinners giv'n. 3 All hail! Redeemer, King, Thou Lamb of Calvary! Let ransomed sinners sing Thy name Thro' all eternity. When stand the ransomed throng Before the great I Am, This shall their endless anthem be, "All worthy is the Lamb!" Amen. On Eden's Primal Day

Author: John Thornburg Meter: 6.6.8.6 D Appears in 1 hymnal Lyrics: 1 On Eden's primal day when everything was new, we humans heard the sound of birds and sensed what we must do. We, too, began to sing our own melodic phrase. Like larks at dawn we sang a song to give our Maker praise. 2 But soon we found a way to play expressive tunes on drums of skin and pipes of tin, with flutes of green bamboo. Then some, with wondrous skill, combined these tones en masse. In organ sound our God is found when air, through pipes, is passed. 3 Renew our praise, O God, within this hallowed space. May everything we pray and sing be mirrors of your grace. Revive our cautious hearts, embolden all we do, inflate our nerve, send us to serve to give our thanks to You. Topics: Music and Singing

Great Is the LORD, Our God

Author: Isaac Watts Meter: 6.6.8.6 D Appears in 302 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Great is the LORD, our God, and let His praise be great; He makes His churches His abode, His most delightful seat. These temples of His grace, how beautiful they stand, the honors of our native place and bulwarks of our land! 2 Oft have our fathers told, our eyes have often seen, how well our God secures the fold where His own sheep have been. In ev'ry new distress we’ll to His house repair, recall to mind His wondrous grace, and seek deliv'rance there. 3 Far as Thy Name is known, the world declares Thy praise; Thy saints, O LORD, before Thy throne, their songs of honor raise. With joy Thy people stand on Zion's chosen hill, proclaim the wonders of Thy hand, and councils of Thy will. 4 How decent and how wise! How glorious to behold! Beyond the pomp that charms the eyes, and rites adorned with gold. The God we worship now will guide us till we die; will be our God while here below, and ours above the sky.
