Your Hands, O Lord, in Days of Old

Author: Edward Hayes Plumptre, 1821-1891 Meter: 8.6.8.6 D Appears in 178 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Your hands, O Lord, in days of old were strong to heal and save; they triumphed over pain and death, o'er darkness and the grave. To you they went, the blind, the mute, the palsied and the lame, the leper set apart and shunned, the sick and those in shame. 2 And then your touch brought life and health, gave speech and strength and sight; and youth renewed, with health restored, claimed you, the Lord of light. And so, O Lord, be near to bless, almighty now as then, in every street, in every home, in every troubled friend. 3 O be our mighty healer still, O Lord of life and death; restore and strengthen, soothe and bless with your almighty breath. On hands that work and eyes that see, your healing wisdom pour, that whole and sick and weak and strong may praise you evermore. What Then Are They, Who Dare Deride

Author: Charles Wesley Meter: 8.6.8.6 D Appears in 1 hymnal Lyrics: What then are they, who dare deride Thy saints for doing good? O Praise the Lord, for He Is Good

Meter: 8.6.8.6 D Appears in 12 hymnals Lyrics: 1 O praise the LORD, for He is good; give thanks and bless His name; His loving-kindness changes not, from age to age the same. What tongue can tell His mighty deeds, His wondrous works and ways? O who can show His glory forth, or utter all His praise? 2 The LORD will bless and prosper those– yea, blest indeed are they– whose ways are just, who constantly His righteous law obey. O LORD, remember me in grace, let me salvation see; the grace You show unto Your saints, that grace reveal to me. 3 Let me behold Your people's good and in their joy rejoice; with Your triumphant heritage let me lift up my voice. In evil we have gone astray, and sinful is our race; rebelliously our fathers walked forgetful of Your grace. 4 Tho' they rebelled, yet for their help in saving strength He came to make His pow'r almighty known and glorify His name. He brought them safely thro' the sea and overwhelmed their foes; their faith was stirred, and for the time their songs of praise arose. 5 Forgetful soon, they tempted God, nor for His counsel cared; He sent them leanness in their souls, While they earth's bounties shared. Their God and Savior they forgot, their helper and their stay, but Moses sought the promised grace and turned God's wrath away. 6 But they despised the pleasant land, the promised land of God, and tempted Him to make them fall and scattered them abroad. Against His own inheritance the LORD's great wrath arose; His chosen people He condemned to serve their heathen foes. 7 Save us, O LORD, our gracious God, from alien lands reclaim, that we may triumph in Your praise and bless Your holy name. Blest be the Lord, our cov'nant God, all praise to Him accord; let all the people say, "Amen!" Forever praise the LORD. Now Let Us All, in Hymns of Praise

Author: Fred Pratt Green Meter: 8.6.8.6 D Appears in 2 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Now let us all, in hymns of praise, bear witness with one voice To God’s redeeming work in Christ, and bid the world rejoice. Today we call to mind the things that time cannot erode: what God, Creator of the world, is doing for our good. 2 What changes, challenges, and tests the church of Christ survives! How rich the records left to us of dedicated lives! Still must the church proclaim to all, that now, and evermore, the house of God is open house, and Christ the Open Door. 3 Of all our labors who can say what harvest there shall be, when time, that limits and distorts, becomes eternity? Then shall our hymns, rehearsed below, be perfect praise above, as, face to face, we fully know what this means: God is love! Topics: Arts and Music; Church Anniversaries and Dedications; Church Communion of Saints; Witness Used With Tune: OPEN DOOR

Mid Canyons Deep of Brick and Stone

Author: Frank E. Greene Meter: 8.6.8.6 D Appears in 2 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Mid canyons deep of brick and stone, Where is your presence, Lord? How may your purposes be known In steel and painted board? Not, surely, through the marks of greed Or monuments of strife, But through what serves our human need, And dignifies our life. 2 In honesty of work and plan Is your own truth expressed; In harmony of earth and soul Is grace made manifest. The leader with a social view, The worker's patient skill, Speak eloquently, Lord, of you, Whose purpose they fulfill. 3 Shine forth within our cities, Lord, Not just in field and wood, Till to our buildings are restored A sense of common good. May the embodiments of sin In which we work and dwell Become true temples, Lord, wherein Your praises we may tell. Topics: City; Grâce; Justice; Praise; Sharing; Sin; Truth Used With Tune: KINGSFOLD

A Little Ship Was On The Sea

Author: Dorothy A. Thrupp Meter: 8.6.8.6 D Appears in 30 hymnals Lyrics: 1 A little ship was on the sea, It was a pretty sight; It sailed along so pleasantly, And all was calm and bright. When lo! a storm began to rise, The wind grew loud and strong; It blew the clouds across the skies, It blew the waves along. 2 And all, but One, were sore afraid Of sinking in the deep; His head was on a pillow laid, And He was fast asleep. "Master, we perish: Master, save!" They cried: their Master heard; He rose, rebuked the wind and wave, And stilled them with a word. 3 He to the storm says, "Peace, be still!" The raging billows cease; The mighty winds obey His will, And all are hushed to peace. Oh, well we know it was the Lord, Our Savior and our friend; Whose care of those who trust His word Will never, never end. 4 A noble ship, our country dear, Has weathered many a gale— Yet now a storm beats so severe That many stout hearts quail. But One who rides above the storm Can save us from all ill; We only wait to hear His voice Commanding, Peace, be still! 5 O Jesus, Master! hear, we pray Remove the chastening rod; Let not our foes exulting say, "There is no help in God." From threatening storms preserve our land, Rebuke the wind and waves; And let us, one united band, Rejoice in God, who saves. Used With Tune: MAZANDARAN
