Thomas Hewlett

1845 - 1874 Person Name: T. Hewlett Composer of "["Others He saved, Himself He could not save"]" in Great Songs of the Church Born: March 16, 1845, Oxford, England. Died: April 10, 1874. Son of Thomas Hewlett, Thomas studied under Leighton Hayne, and earned his BMus degree from Oxford. He played the organ for the Duke of Buccleuch (1865-71); St. Peter’s Church, Edinburgh (1868-69); St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Edinburgh; and Newington Parish Church, Edinburgh (1873-74). --www.hymntime.com/tch

J. C. Blissard

1835 - 1904 Author of "Others He Saved" in Great Songs of the Church John Blissard was born in 1835 in Hampstead Norreys, Berkshire, England. He was educated at St. John’s College, Cambridge. Shortly after graduation, he was appointed mathematical master at Cheam College, which prepared boys for Eton and Harrow. He later served as Curate of St. John’s, Tunbridge Wells, where he started Sunday schools, and Curate of Old Edgaston, St. Augustine's in Birmingham, England. He also served for 20 years as one of the honorary secretaries of the Hospital Sunday Collections Committee, as chairman of the Committee of Management of the Queen’s Hospital and also as chairman for many years of the Magdalen Institution in Birmingham.
