Person Name: Anon. Author of "Father's a drunkard, and mother is dead" in Bible Temperance Hymns In some hymnals, the editors noted that a hymn's author is unknown to them, and so this artificial "person" entry is used to reflect that fact. Obviously, the hymns attributed to "Author Unknown" "Unknown" or "Anonymous" could have been written by many people over a span of many centuries.

Nellie H. Bradley

? - 1927 Author of "Father's a drunkard and mother is dead" Nellie Bradley (died 13 Feb 1927). She was the author of many familiar temperance songs and helped in the camps and hospitals during the Civil War. Mrs. Bradley wrote many patriotic songs which her sister would sing in the hospitals. After the war Mrs. Bradley became active in temperance activities and wrote many songs, plays, cantatas and pageants on that subject. Obituary, The Evening Star, February 14, 1927, p. 7
