49. It Is I, Be not Afraid

1 Fear not ye trembling saints,
Hope on, be not dismayed;
Lift up your heads and dry your tears,
God lives,—be not afraid.

2 Our God is on the throne,
His love can never fail;
Though demons rave and hell be loosed,
His kingdom will prevail.

3 Tho’ He may hide His face,
He never can love more,
And in the dark will hold thy hand
Till safe on yonder shore.

4 Faint not, only be strong,
Look not at dark’ning skies;
The glory of the COMING KING
Will burst upon thine eyes.

5 Trust on, ten million souls
Have put Him to the test,
And through the crucible have found
God’s way is always best.
