1891 - 1980 Author of "As Within the Pillared Temple" in Fifteen New Christian Education Hymns Goodman, E. Urner. (Philadelphia, 1891-1980). Served as Director of United Church Men in the National Council of Churches. Previously National Program Director of the Boy Scouts of America. Graduated from the Philadelphia School of Pedagogy and attended Temple University and the University of Pennsylvania. --The Hymn Society, DNAH Archives ============================= E. Urner Goodman recently retired as Director of United Church Men in the National Council of Churches where he had served since its organization. Previous to that for twenty years he was National Program Director of the Boy Scouts of America. Born in Philadelphia in 1891, he was graduated from the Philadelphia School of Pedagogy and attended Temple University and the University of Pennsylvania. He early identified himself with Christian work and was active in the Men and Religion Forward Movement in his young manhood. Before coming to the National Council of Churches he was active as a Presbyterian layman and helped to organize the National Council of Presbyterian Men. He is the author of the hymn "Christ Calls the Sons of Men," which was introduced during Church Men's Week in 1953. --Fourteen New Rural Hymns, 1955.
