O Jesus, I Have Promised

Author: John E. Bode Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Appears in 633 hymnals Lyrics: 1 O Jesus, I have promised To serve Thee to the end; Be Thou forever near me, My Master and my Friend! I shall not fear the battle If Thou art by my side, Nor wander from the pathway If Thou wilt be my Guide. 2 Oh, let me feel Thee near me! The world is ever near; I see the sights that dazzle; The tempting sounds we hear; My foes are ever near me, Around me and within; But, Jesus, draw Thou nearer And shield my soul from sin. 3 Oh, let me hear Thee speaking In accents dear and still, Above the storms of passion, The murmurs of self-will! Oh, speak to reassure me, To hasten or control! Oh, speak, and make me listen, Thou Guardian of my soul! 4 O Jesus, Thou hast promised To all who follow Thee, That where Thou art in glory There shall Thy servant be. And Jesus, I have promised To serve Thee to the end; Ah, give me grace to follow , My Master and my Friend! Topics: Confession and Consecration Used With Tune: HOS GUD ÄR IDEL GLÄDJE

I Love to Hear the Story

Author: Emily (Huntington) Miller Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Appears in 205 hymnals Lyrics: 1 I love to hear the story Which angel voices tell, How once the King of glory Came down on earth to dwell. I am both weak and sinful, But this I surely know, The Lord came down to save me, Because He loved me so. 2 I’m glad my blessèd Saviour Was once a child like me, To show how pure and holy His little ones might be; And if I try to follow His footsteps here below, He never will forsake me, Because He loves me so. 3 To tell His love and mercy My sweetest songs I’ll raise; And though I cannot see Him, I know He hears my praise; For He has kindly promised That even I may go To sing among His angels, Because He loves me so. Amen. Topics: Children's Hymns; Christmas Day Used With Tune: HOS GUD ÄR IDEL GLÄDJE

Topics: Frid och Fröjd; Peace and Joy Used With Tune: HOS GUD ÄR IDEL GLÄDJE

Carolina Sandell

1823 - 1903 Person Name: Lina Sandell Author of "Hos Gud är idel gladje" in Lutherförbundets Sångbok Caroline W. Sandell Berg (b. Froderyd, Sweden, 1832; d. Stockholm, Sweden, 1903), is better known as Lina Sandell, the "Fanny Crosby of Sweden." "Lina" Wilhelmina Sandell Berg was the daughter of a Lutheran pastor to whom she was very close; she wrote hymns partly to cope with the fact that she witnessed his tragic death by drowning. Many of her 650 hymns were used in the revival services of Carl O. Rosenius, and a number of them gained popularity particularly because of the musical settings written by gospel singer Oskar Ahnfelt. Jenny Lind, the famous Swedish soprano, underwrote the cost of publishing a collection of Ahnfelt's music, Andeliga Sänger (1850), which consisted mainly of Berg's hymn texts. Bert Polman

1813 - 1882 Composer of "HOS GUD ÄR IDEL GLÄDJE" in The Hymnal of the Evangelical Mission Covenant Church of America Oscar Ahnfelt (1813 -1882) was a Swedish singer and composer. He wrote the music for many of Lina Sandell’s hymns. A pietist, he raised some concern in the State-church, but his music was apparently so popular, King Karl XV gave him permission to play and sing in both of his kingdoms. Ahnfelt’s music has spread throughout the world; two of his best-known songs are “Children of the Heavenly Father” and “Day by Day.” Laura de Jong

Small Church Music

Description: History The SmallChurchMusic site was launched in 2006, growing out of the requests from those struggling to provide suitable music for their services and meetings. Rev. Clyde McLennan was ordained in mid 1960’s and was a pastor in many small Australian country areas, and therefore was acutely aware of this music problem. Having also been trained as a Pipe Organist, recordings on site (which are a subset of the smallchurchmusic.com site) are all actually played by Clyde, and also include piano and piano with organ versions. About the Recordings All recordings are in MP3 format. Churches all around the world use the recordings, with downloads averaging over 60,000 per month. The recordings normally have an introduction, several verses and a slowdown on the last verse. Users are encouraged to use software: Audacity (http://www.audacityteam.org) or Song Surgeon (http://songsurgeon.com) to adjust the MP3 number of verses, tempo and pitch to suit their local needs. Mobile App We have partnered with the developer of the popular NetTracks mobile app to offer the Small Church Music collection as a convenient mobile app. Experience the beloved Small Church Music collection through this iOS app featuring nearly 10,000 high-quality hymn recordings that can be organized into custom setlists and downloaded for offline use—ideal for worship services without musicians, congregational practice, and personal devotion. The app requires a small fee to cover maintenance costs. Please note: While Hymnary.org hosts this music collection, technical support for the app is provided exclusively by the app developer, not by Hymnary.org staff. LicensingCopyright notice: Rev.
