Shepherds, Rejoice! Lift Up Your Eyes

Author: Isaac Watts Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 163 hymnals Lyrics: 1. “Shepherds, rejoice! lift up your eyes, And send your fears away; News from the regions of the skies, Salvation’s born today. 2. “Jesus, the God whom angels fear, Comes down to dwell with you; Today He makes His entrance here, But not as monarchs do. 3. “No gold nor purple swaddling bands. Nor royal shining things; A manger for His cradle stands, And holds the King of kings. 4. Go, shepherds, where the Infant lies, And see His humble throne With tears of joy in all your eyes, Go, shepherds, kiss the Son. 5. Thus Gabriel sang, and straight around The heav’nly armies throng; They tune their harps to lofty sound, And thus conclude the song: 6. Glory to God that reigns above! Let peace surround the earth! Mortals shall know their Maker’s love, At their Redeemer’s birth. 7. Lord, and shall angels have their songs, And men no tunes to raise? O may we lose our useless tongues When they forget to praise. 8. Glory to God that reigns above, That pitied us forlorn; We join to sing our Maker’s love, For there’s a Savior born.

1903 - 2000 Person Name: Fred Pratt Green (1903-2000) Author of "What Joy It Is to Worship Here" in Seventh-day Adventist Hymnal The name of the Rev. F. Pratt Green is one of the best-known of the contemporary school of hymnwriters in the British Isles. His name and writings appear in practically every new hymnal and "hymn supplement" wherever English is spoken and sung. And now they are appearing in American hymnals, poetry magazines, and anthologies. Mr. Green was born in Liverpool, England, in 1903. Ordained in the British Methodist ministry, he has been pastor and district superintendent in Brighton and York, and now served in Norwich. There he continued to write new hymns "that fill the gap between the hymns of the first part of this century and the 'far-out' compositions that have crowded into some churches in the last decade or more." --Seven New Hymns of Hope , 1971. Small Church Music

Description: History The SmallChurchMusic site was launched in 2006, growing out of the requests from those struggling to provide suitable music for their services and meetings. Rev. Clyde McLennan was ordained in mid 1960’s and was a pastor in many small Australian country areas, and therefore was acutely aware of this music problem. Having also been trained as a Pipe Organist, recordings on site (which are a subset of the smallchurchmusic.com site) are all actually played by Clyde, and also include piano and piano with organ versions. About the Recordings All recordings are in MP3 format. Churches all around the world use the recordings, with downloads averaging over 60,000 per month. The recordings normally have an introduction, several verses and a slowdown on the last verse. Users are encouraged to use software: Audacity (http://www.audacityteam.org) or Song Surgeon (http://songsurgeon.com) to adjust the MP3 number of verses, tempo and pitch to suit their local needs. Mobile App We have partnered with the developer of the popular NetTracks mobile app to offer the Small Church Music collection as a convenient mobile app. Experience the beloved Small Church Music collection through this iOS app featuring nearly 10,000 high-quality hymn recordings that can be organized into custom setlists and downloaded for offline use—ideal for worship services without musicians, congregational practice, and personal devotion. The app requires a small fee to cover maintenance costs. Please note: While Hymnary.org hosts this music collection, technical support for the app is provided exclusively by the app developer, not by Hymnary.org staff. LicensingCopyright notice: Rev.
